Home Repairs Funding for Renfrew-Ontario

The County of Renfrew, in partnership with the Province of Ontario, is pleased to announce Ontario Renovates is accepting new applications for funding to assist homeowners to access funding for upgrades to their homes to enhance their quality of life. Ontario Renovates is a program which is part of the Investment in Affordable Housing for Ontario (IAH) 2014 Extension Program. This program provides financial assistance to homeowners by way of a forgivable loan to repair their home to acceptable standards while improving the energy efficiency and/or increasing accessibility of their unit.

Chair of the County of Renfrew Social Services Committee, Councillor Debbie Robinson explained that; “The target groups for Ontario Renovates include low to moderate homeowners residing in the County of Renfrew. This is a great opportunity for some of our residents to make the necessary upgrades to their home and also improve their quality of life. I really encourage our local residents to inquire about this program. The program is based on a first-come, first-serve basis.”

Home Repairs Funding for Renfrew-Ontario

In order to qualify for the  Home Repairs Funding for Renfrew-Ontario program, residents must meet certain criteria, including but not limited to:

The property must be located in the County of Renfrew,

Applicants must own the home that is their sole and principle residence with a market value below $216,752,

Applicants must have a total household income that does not exceed $80,300 which includes all sources of income.

In order to qualify for the Home Repairs Funding for Renfrew-Ontario program, there is a formal application process that is administered through Renfrew County Housing Corporation. Funding is provided in the form of a 10-year, interest free forgivable loan to homeowners based on the cost of approved work items up to $10,000. In addition, funding for accessibility repairs made to a home and/or unit up to a maximum of $3,500 is based upon the cost of approved work items, is in the form of a grant and does not require repayment. The application must provide supporting information and documentation as required.

The Forgivable Grants for Simcoe Home Owners includes funding for urgent repairs, renovations, and accessibility modifications for low to moderate income homeowners. Funding of up to $15,000 per unit is available. Accessibility modifications are particularly beneficial for seniors to allow them to 'age in place' and persons with disabilities who require unit modifications.

Forgivable Grants for Major Repair in Sudbury

The governments of Canada and Ontario have allocated funding to the City of Greater Sudbury to provide loans to households who would like to make major repairs, including accessibility repairs, to their homes but cannot afford to do so.
Program Details

The assistance is in the form of a ten year interest free forgivable loan up to $20,000. However, the loan is repayable should the home be sold or program conditions are not met. If however your repairs are accessibility modifications, $5,000 of the loan is considered a grant and is not repayable.

Forgivable Grants for Sudbury Home Owners

Although this is a forgivable loan, the City of Greater Sudbury must be registered as a mortgagee on the property to secure the loan. The applicant will need to hire a lawyer to act on their behalf and register the mortgage.

Forgivable Grants for Sudbury Home Owners is designed to assist low to moderate income homeowners to do urgent repairs to their homes. The repairs must fall under the following categories:

  • Structural
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Heating and Energy Conservation
  • Accessibility for disabled (includes ramps and interior renovations)
  • Secondary Dwelling (additional approvals required)

Forgivable Grants for Sudbury Home Owners

Repairs of a cosmetic nature are not eligible for funding. Trailers and mobile homes on leased land are not eligible for funding under this program.

Forgivable Grants for Sudbury Home Owners Each homeowner seeking approval under this program must meet the following criteria at the time he/she applies for assistance:

  • The applicant must at least be 18 years of age and be a Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant. 
  • The applicant must own and reside in the house to be repaired.
  • The house must be located in the City of Greater Sudbury.
  • The applicant’s annual gross household income cannot exceed $85,200. For the purpose of this program, the household income of an applicant shall be deemed to include but not limited to

               (i) the applicant;

               (ii) any person with whom the applicant is living in a spousal relationship (including same beautiful relationship); and

               (iii) any person living in the home over the age of 18 not in full-time attendance in school.

The applicant’s request for assistance must be accompanied by two pieces of photo identification; a copy of birth certificate or citizenship documents of each homeowner; a copy of the 2016 Notice of Income Tax Assessment from CRA for each household member over 18 years of age; verification of current income for each household member over 18 years of age; and a copy of the 2016 Property Assessment Notice issued by MPAC.

Home Eligibility

To be considered eligible a home must meet the following requirements:

  • The value of the house cannot exceed $253,068 per 2016 MPAC Notice of Property Assessment,
  • The house must be your sole and principal residence,
  • You must have $20,000 in equity in the home,
  • The house cannot be encumbered by an existing 2nd mortgage or have liens against it, and
  • The house can be detached, semi-detached or freehold townhouse.

The Region's Affordable Home Ownership program provides individuals and families with a loan for the down payment on a home.
Forgivable Grants for Waterloo Home Owners
If you qualify, you can receive five per cent of the purchase price of a home. The home must be:

Located in the Region of Waterloo
A maximum purchase price of $386,000
Approved by the Region of Waterloo

Are you eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply  Forgivable Grants for Waterloo Home Owners, you must:

  • Qualify for a mortgage
  • Have a maximum household income of $90,500
  • Be at least 18 years old and currently renting
  • Not own or have an interest in a home
  • Not owe money to a Community Housing landlord
  • Be a legal resident of Canada
  • Intend to have this home as your one and only residence

The Region's Ontario Renovates program helps you cover the cost of repairing or modifying your home. You may qualify for up to $25,000 in forgivable loans to:

If you would like to add an affordable secondary (in-law) suite to your home, the Region can help you pay for the cost. Funding is available through Ontario Renovates.
