Ontario homeowners can choose from a shopping list of renovation grants from the Government of Canada:

  • Furnaces — high-efficiency gas or oil, up to $790
  • Central air conditioners — replacement $250
  • Hot water heaters — condensing gas $375
  • Hot water heaters — tankless/instantaneous gas, condensing-type $375
  • Boilers — high-efficiency gas or oil $750
  • HRV — heat recovery ventilator $375
  • Solar — hot water system $1,250
  • Heat pumps — air-source heat pump which doubles as air conditioner $500
  • Geothermal — ground- or water-source heat pumps which are energy-efficient heating and cooling systems up to $4,375

Government of Alberta Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program

Seniors property tax deferral program

Alberta Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program allows eligible senior homeowners to defer all or part of their property taxes through a low-interest home equity loan with the Alberta government. If you qualify, the Alberta government will pay your residential property taxes directly to the City of Calgary on your behalf. You re-pay the loan, with interest, when you sell the home, or sooner if you wish.

You can apply for the Government of Alberta Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program at any time of year; however, for the Province to pay your property tax on your behalf by the due date of June 30 and avoid penalty, the Government of Alberta Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program must receive your application by May 31.

Homeownership 10% Downpayment Assistance Program in Windsor – Ontario

Investment in Affordable Housing Program for Ontario Extension (IAH-E)

The Federal and Provincial governments partnered to fund a Homeownership Downpayment Assistance Program in Windsor – Ontario. It is estimated the program can provide assistance for a limited number of households. Downpayment assistance of 10% of the purchase price of an eligible home, up to a maximum of $19,700 is provided by a 20-year forgivable loan registered on title as a second mortgage. Completed applications will be generally processed on a first come, first serve basis having regard to a fair distribution of the program funds across Windsor and Essex County. The program expires when program funds are depleted or November 30, 2016, whichever occurs first.
